- Kapitan's - established in 1914, Kapitan's was a well-known restaurant in Johannesburg and was one of the city's oldest restaurants.[4][5][6] In the 1950s, Nelson Mandela frequently lunched here, and also brought his future wife, Winnie Madikizela-Mandela, there on their first date.[5][6] Madanjit Ranchod worked at the restaurant for 63 years, and the restaurant closed after Ranchod died in December 2007.[5]
