List of people legally executed in Australia
Aboriginal society for millennia had the death penalty as a punishment, inflicted directly or through sorcery or incantation.[1]
The first executions under European law were on 2 October 1629, of mutineers of the Dutch East India Company (VOC) ship Batavia on Long Island in the Houtman Abrolhos of Western Australia.[2]
Following the arrival of the First Fleet, Thomas Barrett was the first person executed in Australia under British law.
