List of people legally executed in Australia

Aboriginal society for millennia had the death penalty as a punishment, inflicted directly or through sorcery or incantation.[1]

The first executions under European law were on 2 October 1629, of mutineers of the Dutch East India Company (VOC) ship Batavia on Long Island in the Houtman Abrolhos of Western Australia.[2]

Following the arrival of the First Fleet, Thomas Barrett was the first person executed in Australia under British law.

State boundaries have changed during Australia's history. For the purpose of this article, the executions listed below are divided geographically according to state and territory boundaries as they have existed since 1989.
