List of awareness ribbons

This is a partial list of awareness ribbons. The meaning behind an awareness ribbon depends on its colors and pattern. Since many advocacy groups have adopted ribbons as symbols of support or awareness, ribbons, particularly those of a single color, some colors may refer to more than one cause. Some causes may be represented by more than one ribbon.

Colors and meanings

Ribbon Color Meanings
Clear, pearl or Gennessa ribbon
  • Lung-cancer awareness. It was originally clear, referencing air and being too-often unnoticed, but evolved to primarily pearl or white for practical reasons, because a clear ribbon is not easily visible.[1][2][3] Some sources suggest clear or white as a subset of pearl for long-term-non-smoker/never-smoker lung cancer, but there is no evidence of lung cancer organization support for this distinction.[3] Some lung cancer organizations use different colors or symbols.[4]
Robin-egg-blue[5] / turquoise
Black and silver ribbon
Blue and Yellow Ribbon
Yellow ribbon
  • Traditional (in the U.S. and in Canada) symbol of support for military forces, especially those deployed overseas and in conflicts.

  • A symbol of wish for universal suffrage by the pro-democracy groups and activists of Hong Kong SAR (see Hong Kong Umbrella Revolution)[10] and a symbol of democracy.
  • A symbol of mourning the victims of South Korea's Sewol Ferry (see South Korea Sewol Sinking).
