Seraph of the End is a manga written by Takaya Kagami and illustrated by Yamato Yamamoto. It has been serialized by Shueisha in its Japanese monthly shōnen manga magazine Jump SQ since September 3, 2012.[1] The series is set in a world where a virus has ravaged the global populace and leaving only children under the age of thirteen untouched, leaving the appearances of vampires. A young man, Yuichiro "Yu" Hyakuya, sets to kill the vampires after one kills almost all the members from his orphanage.

The series has been collected in tankōbon format from January 1, 2013 and as of December 4, 2015, ten volumes have been collected.[2][3] The 11th volume will include an original video animation.[4] On October 7, 2013, Viz Media announced that it has licensed for North American release and added the series to its manga to its lineup of the company's Weekly Shonen Jump digital magazine.[5] A voice comic (vomic) was also produced and published by Shueisha and its first episode was featured by Sakiyomi Jum-Bang! on February 1, 2013.[6]

A spin-off gag manga to commemorate the anime adaptation titled Serapuchi!〜Seraph of the End 4-koma〜 (せらぷち!〜終わりのセラフ4コマ編〜 Serapuchi!〜 Owari no Serafu 4-koma-hen 〜) has been serialized by Shueisha in Jump SQ since April 2015 after being serialized in 17th and 18th volumes of Jump SQ.19. It also has been published on the Seraph of the End official website.[7]

Yuichiro "Yu" Hyakuya and Mikaela "Mika" Hyakuya are the oldest members of the Hyakuya orphanage within the vampire city of Sanguinem, after a virus killed almost all the adults and vampires appeared to feed on the younger humans. Mika steals a map from the noble vampire Ferid Bathory as well as a gun to escape from Sanguinem. However, Ferid reaches them and kill all the orphans leaving only Yu to escape after he shoots him to the head. After escaping, Yu meets Guren Ichinose, the leader of the Moon Demon Company in charge of fighting the vampire. Four years later, Yu is suspended from the Company until he makes a friend under the guide of Shinoa Hīragi, Guren's sergeant. When a vampire infiltrates to the school, Yu and teenager named Yoichi Saotome work together to stop it. Guren ultimately kills the vampire and lets Yu and Yoichi join the Moon Demon Company. Yu later knows from Shinoa that in order to harm a vampire, they must use a Demon Weapon. Yu manages to save a schoolmate from the weapon's demon. Unaware to Yu, Mika has sided with the vampires.

On way to his first class in the Moon Demon Company, Yu meets his classmate Shiho Kimizuki, who he ends fighting with. When the entire class are divided in pairs to fight shikigamis, Shinoa makes Yu work together with Kimizuki. However, Yu convinces Kimizuki to visit his ill sister. The series then goes back to the first chapter where Krul Tepes, the queen of the vampires, forced Mika to drink her blood to become a vampire whereas Ferid was playing dead. Back to the present, Yu and his classmates Kimizuki and Yoichi obtain their own Demon Weapons. However, Yoichi ends up possessed by his weapon, the duo must find a way to bring him back to his senses without killing him. After Yoichi regains control of his body, Guren informs they will send them to Shinjuku in order to face vampires.

Yu and his friends introduced to a new member, Mitsuba Sangu, and are then dispatched for his first mission as part of the Moon Demon Company, but when they spot a little girl in distress, Yu ignores orders and rushes to rescue her, despite being warned that he is just being lured into a trap. After that, they proceed to Shinjuku and encounter vampire nobles Crowley Eusford, Chess Belle, and Horn Skuld and find they are utterly outmatched. However, the vampires leave to the front lines, and Shinoa Squad survives. Meanwhile, Guren's squad encounters Mika and Ferid and prepare to fight just as Shinoa squad is ordered to help their comrades.

On their way to aid Guren, Shinoa gives their teammates pills to increase their strength in order to fight the stronger noble vampires. Meanwhile, Guren's squad is having problems with Mika and Jerid. Before Mika can finish Guren, Yu stabs Mika but is unable to kill him after realizing he was attacking his best friend. Mika tries to make Yu escape alongside him, but Yu enters in shock when seeing all of his allies having their blood consumed by the vampires. He then enters into a mutant berserker form and after he attacks Crowley, Shinoa tries to calm him down. After more members from the Moon Demon Company, the vampires flee. A week later, Shinoa learns from Guren that Yu has been experimented resulting in his berserker form. Once Yu wakes up, he expresses his gratitue to his friends and both he and Mika swear to rescue each other.

Yu is called for an interview with the Lieutenant General of the Japanese Imperial Demon Army, Kureto Hiragi and Shinya Hiragi. After testing him in battle, Kureto has his men torturing Yoichi and Kimizuki in order to test Yu's background and discovers that the children from the Hyakuya orphanage were experimented on. Afterward, Yu asks Guren that if he "belongs" to him, Mika would also be useful to him. Guren accepts that and lets Shinoa and Mitsuba train Yu and Kimizuki to control their Demon Weapons. Yu has his weapon, Asuramau, consume part of his blood to make contact with the demon inside it.

Asuramaru tries to torment Yu with illusions about his friends from Hyakuya as well as his abusive father, but it does not affect him. Instead, Yu bonds with him allowing him to gain new powers. After Yu recovers, Kimizuki also tries to contact his Demon, Kiseki O, who suggests him to kill his younger sister so that he would be free. However, Kimizuki is motivated by Yu's actions and also becomes stronger. Meanwhile, Mika starts suffering from blood thirst and cannot take a human's blood as it would turn him into a complete vampire. Instead, he drinks blood from Krul who claims she killed all the orphans from Hyakuya during a discussion with Lest Karr. Later, Kureto orders Guren to take Yu, Yoichi and Kimizuki alongside a hundred soldiers to Nagoya to face the vampire nobles.

In order to participate in the noble extermination mission, Shinoa's squad heads off to Ebina service area to meet the others. As a result of arriving late due to fighting some demons on their way, the squad is punished. Yu tries to take the blame, but Norito Goshi from Guren's squad makes an illusion of Yu being tortured to bring the rest of the squad. In order to test their teamwork, Guren starts fighting Shinoa's squad alongside his comrades Mito Jujo and Shinya Hīragi. Despite the advantage in number, Shinoa's squad is easily defeated. Shinoa's squad is later placed to work under Makoto Narumi's squad with their objective being killing the noble vampire Lucas Wesker. As their first strike, Yoichi and Shinya attack Wesker from a long distance but fail to kill him. Yu then heads to attack the vampire.

Yu is aided by Kimizuki, Shinoa, Mitsuba and Narumi to fight Wesker. After Kimizuki teases him with his sliced arm, Yu manages to defeat him, leaving Narumi to finish their opponent. Meanwhile, Guren's squad defeat their own enemy and head to Nagoya to reunite with Shinoa's and Narumi's squad to prepare to fight Crowley Eusford. Aiko Aihara's team also defeat their enemy but at the cost of several of eight of her men. The rest are commit suicide when attacked by Mika's team who questions Aiko about her Yu's whereabouts. Aiko tells him the truth and is then killed. In Nagoya, Yoichi attacks once again from a long distance to Crowley but fails to wound him. Guren's squad heads to fight Crowley while Shinoa's squad goes to rescue their cruxified comrades.

Despite their efforts, Guren's squad is defeated by Crowley. Shinoa's squad tries to ambush Crowley but their efforts fail when the vampire's servants defend him. Shinya and the rest of the squads are forced to retreat leaving leaving Guren captured by Crowley. Unable to quit Guren due to how much he aided him in the past, Yu takes three drugs to enhance his power but nearly dies. Once he regains consciousness, he tries to fight Crowley one-on-one but fails to defeat him. When Yu is possessed by Asuramaru, Kimizuki captures him with his own Demon Weapon and escapes with the rest of the team. Mika then arrives to the scene and confronts all the humans until finding Yu. Shinoa allows Mika to take him while the two squads try fighting the rest of the vampires.
