Lina Attalah
Lina Attalah is a major and well-known Egyptian media figure and journalist. She was once an editor of Egypt Independent before it was shut down and therefore she is active in the fight against the restriction of honest journalism and claims, "I think the current moment in Egypt represents one of the gravest junctures of corporate restriction on journalism. This is manifested in the way all privately owned media unified their messages in their quest to align with the military consolidation of its position in politics, as part of media entrepreneurs’ own conflict with the Muslim Brotherhood."
Education and Career
She studied journalism at the American University in Cairo and has gone onto a successful career covering notable events in the Egyptian world and the recent uprisings. She has written for Al-Masry Al-Youm English Edition, Reuters, Cairo times, the Daily Star, and the Christian Science Monitor. She also worked as a radio producer and campaign coordinator for BBC World Service trust in 2005. She is multi-talented and has worked on numerous research-based projects using multi-media outputs. Most recently she has been focused on covering the movements in Egypt.
