The Nationalist Liberal Party (Spanish: Partido Liberal Nacionalista, PLN), until 1928 called Liberal Party (Spanish: Partido Liberal, PL), was a political party in Nicaragua. It was established in 1893 by José María Moncada. Initially a leftist party, after 1928 became a supporter of rightist policies, like authoritarianism and economic liberalism. When Anastasio Somoza García took the power in 1936, the party became also aligned with the United States and other caudillos in the Latin America, like Rafael Trujillo, Juan Peron, Oswaldo López Arellano and Fulgencio Batista.
From 1936 to 1979, the office of President of Nicaragua was held by members of the Nationalist Liberal Party. When the 1st phase of the Nicaraguan Revolution was won by the FSLN, the PLN was dissolved by the new government. Many Somozas' loyalists supported or joined Contras rebel groups.
