Lester E. Taylor III was sworn into office as the 13th Mayor of the City of East Orange, New Jersey.[1] At the age of 39, he became the second youngest mayor in the city’s history.
He lives in East Orange’s first ward with his wife, Bibi, and their three children, Amani, LT and Lena.
Early career
Mayor Taylor earned his undergraduate degree in political science from Montclair State University[2] and a Juris Doctorate from Howard University School of Law. Both a member of the New Jersey State Bar Association and a Trustee for the New Jersey School Boards Association-North Region Association of School Attorneys, Mayor Taylor is also a partner at Florio Perrucci Steinhardt & Fader.[3] He chairs the firm’s education practice group focusing on representing boards of education in matters related to general counsel services, special education, litigation, labor, employment, and workers’ compensation.
Year One
In September 2014, East Orange became the 4th city in the State of New Jersey and the 8th in the United States to pass the earned paid sick leave ordinance.[4]
Taylor also launched several new initiatives, the Quality of Life Task Force,[5] the East Orange College and Career Readiness Network,[6] and the Mentor Summit[7]
