Les Anciens d'AEGEE-Europe

Les Anciens d'AEGEE is the alumni association of the interdisciplinary European students' association Association des États Généraux des Étudiants de l'Europe (AEGEE). It was founded in May 1990 in Paris by Johannes Heister during the EGEE VI meeting of AEGEE-Europe. Les Anciens d'AEGEE is a secular, non-profit organisation not linked to any political party. Its purpose is to be the alumni organisation of AEGEE by giving aims to its members to stay in touch when their active AEGEE times are over and strengthen the links between AEGEE-alumni and the currently active generation of AEGEE members. Les Anciens d'AEGEE organises several events per year, informs about current developments in AEGEE and discusses European and professional matters. Les Anciens in itself is not a continuation of AEGEE - while AEGEE is focussing on organising local events, conferences, summer courses and international projects related to matters of European integration, Les Anciens d'AEGEE does not have a strickt thematic approach.

Membership

It is possible for all former members of AEGEE to apply for membership. An applicant can request to become member through the associations website www.anciens.org or by contacting the Secretary of Les Anciens d'AEGEE or by applying directly with the secretary. In order to qualify for membership, a person must have been an AEGEE member.

Support for AEGEE

Many members of Les Anciens d'AEGEE are successful entrepreneurs, are involved in national politics or are working for institutions such as the UN, the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe or the European Commission. Therefore, Les Anciens d'AEGEE acts as a pool of experience for the current generation of active AEGEE members. If advice is needed, usually there are Les Anciens d'AEGEE members at hand who have dealt with a similar issue before or can help due to their professional background. The members of Les Anciens d'AEGEE are supporting AEGEE with contacts in the business sector or in international institutions. Les Anciens d'AEGEE also supports AEGEE financially through it's Continuity Fund.

Internal Structure

Les Anciens d'AEGEE has a very flat hierarchy. The General Assembly is the legislative of the association. During the General Assembly the coordination team presents its moral report and financial report as well as strategic plans. In between the annual assemblies, the coordination team is taking care of all administrative matters. The board of Les Anciens consists of the Coordinator, the Secretary General, the Treasurer and up to two additional board members. They are elected for two years.
