History

Initially, the Nickelodeon featured Lego sets did not only release the 2 Avatar The Last Airbender Lego sets. SpongeBob SquarePants Lego sets were released at the same time (2006). Both being the flagship product for a newly signed partnership of Lego and Nickelodeon. The nickelodeon series featured its most iconic shows, which were Avatar, SpongeBob SquarePants and its newest member, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. The Avatar The Last Airbender Lego sets were not a series of their own, but only a theme out of many of the main series which was Nickelodeon.[5]

Reasons for its discontinuation of the Avatar The Last Airbender Lego sets were due to the lack in popularity as compared to its partners. The Lego Avatar series was considered obsolete because the series was only planned to have three seasons. Therefore, the Lego series was considered obsolete leading to further speculation of its lack of popularity. This eventually led to the discontinuation making it one of the shortest series that Lego has ever produced.[5]

The SpongeBob SquarePants Lego sets continue to be a selling product in the Lego and Nickelodeon community. Although the Nickelodeon and Lego partnership still continues, both corporations seek to add new and different products that will increase popularity among consumers.[5]

LEGO Avatar: The Last Airbender offers two hero models with collectible mini figures and role play action to recreate popular environs of the animated series. Planned marketing support includes TV, Web content, LEGO Club, model tour, co-promotions and retail feature.[5]
