Laurence Anthony Kirwan (born 31 March 1952 in Liverpool) is a British doctor.[2]

Education and career

Kirwan graduated from the Victoria University of Manchester in 1974.[3] He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England since 1979, trained in General Surgery at the Maimonides Medical Center in New York (1980-1981), and was a resident at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center in New York (1981-1982). Kirwan was a Fellow in Hand Surgery at the University of Colorado (1984-1985).[4]

Kirwan has been indefinitely certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery, Inc. (ASPS),[5] he is certified in Hand Surgery (1990) and has been recertified in Hand Surgery (2010).[1][6] He practices breast augmentation surgery and other plastic surgery in Norwalk, Connecticut and London, England. He was quoted in a 2002 New York Times article on botox.[7]

He has appeared in the press for his breast reduction operations on reality television personality Ulrika Jonsson and television presenter Kim Woodburn.[8][9][10]

Kirwan uses a so-called breast "auto augmentation" technique.[2]

Charity

Working with AmeriCares in 1989, he organised charity surgery missions after the Spitak earthquake in Yerevan, Armenia. He organised charity surgery missions in war zones in Croatia (1993 and 1996) with UNESCO.[11] In 1989, Kirwan became the founding director of AmeriCares' 'Doctors for All Peoples'.[12]

Honors

The London Evening Standard, a free daily newspaper tabloid in London, named him as one of the 1000 Most Influential Londoners in 2007 and 2008.[3] He is listed in Debrett's People of Today.[13]

Personal life

Kirwan is married to Chelsea Chapman Kirwan. They met when Chelsea was a plastic surgery patient of Laurence Kirwan.[14] In August 2012, Chelsea Kirwan called the police and Laurence Kirwan was charged with third degree assault and disorderly conduct.[15] Kirwan hired a public relations team.[16] Kirwan was banned from Hospital of St John and St Elizabeth in St John's Wood after his arrest.[17] Kirwan was reinstated one month later.[18]

Kirwan and Chelsea have three children together; Ophelia who has Down syndrome, and twins named Felicity and Lilibet.[14][19] In 2008, Chelsea Kirwan said in an interview that she plans to get plastic surgery for her Down syndrome daughter.[20] Kirwan is stepfather to Tailor Dortona, Chelsea's daughter from a previous relationship.[14]
