The Latin American Research Review (LARR) is an interdisciplinary academic journal that focuses on the publication of “original research and surveys of current research on Latin America and the Caribbean.”[1]
History
A consortium of United States universities founded LARR in 1965.[2] After the amalgamation of LARR and the Latin American Studies Association (LASA) in 1966, the journal officially became the association’s scholarly publication.[3] The editorship was initially located at University of Texas at Austin in 1965, was moved to the University of North Carolina in 1974, and then to the University of New Mexico in 1982 before returning to the University of Texas at Austin in 2003.[4] In 2006 Dr. Philip Oxhorn at McGill University was appointed LARR editor in chief, a position he will leave in December 2016.[5] Professor Aníbal Pérez-Liñán at the University of Pittsburgh has been awarded the editorship and will serve as the new editor in chief.[6] The new editorial team will review all new manuscripts submitted in 2016 in order to warrant a smooth transition.[7]
Publication Details
LAAR is published three times a year -Spring, Summer, and Fall- and considers articles for publication in English, Spanish, and Portuguese.[8] Editorial and production services are provided by the University of Pittsburgh Press.[9] LARR is currently in the process of transitioning to electronic-only publication and will suspend print publication soon.[10] Thus, manuscripts accepted for publication and submitted after October 15, 2014 will only appear in electronic form and not in a printed volume.[11]
LAAR is indexed and/or abstracted in Academic Index, Academic Search Premier, Arts & Humanities Citation Index, America: History and Life, Anthropological Literature, CSA Worldwide Political Science Abstracts, Chicano Index, Current Contents, Elsevier Bibliographic Databases, Film Literature Index, Geographical Abstracts, Hispanic American Periodicals Index, Historical Abstracts, International Bibliography of the Social Sciences, PAIS, Science Direct Navigator, Social Science Citation Index, and Social Sciences Index.[12]
