Lateri (Hindi: लटेरी) is a town and a nagar panchayat in Vidisha district in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh.

Demographics

As of 2011 India census,[1] Lateri had a population of 30000. Males constitute 53% of the population and females 47%. Lateri has an average literacy rate of 50%, lower than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 59%, and female literacy is 39%. In Lateri, 18% of the population is under 6 years of age.

History

This place once upon surrounded by dense Forest of Mahavan, also concluded as place for renounce worship,few kilometres there is "Madagan" assumed to be Omnipotent,omniscient noble Sadhus having two reservoir formed by phenomenal water source,one take hundreds of bucket water but water level still remains same .there is local Carnival every year on Makar Sankranti.

Laxmikant Sharma was chosen three times consecutively as BJP M.L.A. from Sironj-Lateri constituency but he lost to Gowardhan Upadhyay an INC candidate in assembly elections of 2013.

To reach Lateri

It is much easier to reach Lateri from Bhopal than from Vidisha, on account of better roads and more frequent buses plying between Bhopal and Lateri than Vidisha and Lateri. It takes about 3 or 4 hours by a public transport bus to reach Lateri from Bhopal. These buses are available at Putli Ghar bus stand(earlier Berasia bus stand), Bhopal. The nearest railway station is Ganj Basoda, 75 kilometres east of Lateri, which lies on the main Mumbai-Delhi, Delhi-Chennai railway route. For a person coming from Delhi, the best train to take is Hazrat Nizamuddin- Habibganj Bhopal Express which leaves Delhi at 9 O’clock in night and reaches Ganj Basoda at 6 in the morning. Thereafter, one has to take a bus from here to Lateri, which is about 2 hour drive,or one can arrange taxi very easily from here.
