"LOL" is the fifth episode of the Showtime original series Californication. It was written by Susan McMartin, directed by Bart Freundlich and originally aired on Sunday September 10, 2007.

Plot

The episode begins with another church related dream of Hank's, this time involving Bill and a homosexual blow job. After Hank questions who wants to suck whose cock, he inquires about a girl who is beautiful, smart, funny, but not Karen. After Bill states that Karen does not love him, but loves Bill, Karen, dressed as a nun, bursts into the room and begins to make out with Bill (who simultaneously gives the finger to Hank). When Hank wakes up from the dream, he is in bed with Meredith. Meredith uses the phrase 'LOL' which causes Hank to state that although he does not have a problem with the word, he believes every time a person uses it, they are "contributing to the death of the English language."

After the introduction, it is revealed that Charlie and his wife Marcy are having some marital issues; the situation is further escalated by Marcy trying to insert her finger between Charlie's buttocks, at the suggestion of Hank, who had merely suggested she "spice" things up.

Later, Bill arrives at Hank's apartment and states that they need to have a talk about Mia. Hank gets worried and noticeably agitated. He begins to ramble on about how "I'm really sorry, it's just a fucked up situation and it should have never happened, and no one is really to blame. But I am glad you are here so we can get on the same page," alluding to when he slept with Mia. Bill, confused, questions Hank on what he is talking about, but Hank does not reply and allows Bill to speak. Bill states the reason he came over was because he has to go out of town on business, and he was supposed to speak at Mia's creative writing class. Bill was hoping that, as a writer, Hank could step in for him. Hank agrees, but not without taking something in exchange - Bill's leather jacket. Hank wins over the students at Mia's all-girl school and also learns that her teacher lusts after the young girls he teaches (which later causes Hank to remark to Karen: "Please promise me we will never send Becca there").

Hank gives a radio interview with Henry Rollins where he rants about the lack of proper language on the internet, calling the people who use it stupid. Afterward, he has dinner with Charlie, Marcy and Meredith. Meredith is angry because she used netspeak around him and feels the rant was directed at her, so she breaks things off with Hank. The next morning, she comes back to get her things, and she reveals that her married lover has left his wife, thanks to Hank's actions in the previous episode. In the end, she and Hank part on rather good terms after a last session of kitchen sex.

At home, Becca's pre-teen crush on her guitar teacher ends in her first heartbreak when, that night, he goes off with Mia instead. Afterward, Hank tries to comfort her in his own way.
