She is best known as being the visual, vocalist and lead dancer of the South Korean girl group Hello Venus, formed by Fantagio and Pledis Entertainment. She debuted on May 9, 2012[1] together with Hello Venus members.

Early life

Kwon Nara was born on March 13, 1991 in Incheon, South Korea. She has two younger sisters, Hara and Bora. She was born in Incheon but moved to Bundang when she was seven. Her nicknames were "ddochi" (from Dooly the Little Dinosaur) and "Bundang's Lee Na-young". Nara became a trainee when she was in middle school under Fantagio Entertainment where she first learned acting.[2] Nara is currently attending Dongduk Women's University, where her major is broadcasting.

Career

Pre-debut

Nara appeared as a cameo role as a stewardess on the 20th episode of the SBS drama “Take Care of Us, Captain" with fellow Hello Venus member, Yooyoung as a cameo role as stewardess.[3][4]

Hello Venus

Nara first actively promoted release was Hello Venus's debuted their mini-album Venus on May 9, 2012. 'Venus' features four track in all, with "Venus" serving as the promotional track. Promotions for "Venus" began on May 10, on M! Countdown without Yoonjo.

A month after her debut, Nara starred with Kim Soo-hyun in 'Cass Fresh' CF, she was cast for a role in a 'youth culture' focused episode of the CF series. Aiming to show the lively energy of youth, the two are seen enjoying themselves at a pool party while showing off their incredible bodies.[5]

Also last June 2012, Pledis Entertainment labelmates Nana and Hello Venus's Nara have participated in a 'twin pictorial' for InStyle magazine. As the representative visuals of their respective groups, the girls put their professional modeling experience to the test by captivating the camera with their tall, slender bodies and jaw-dropping looks. Their concept called for tropical looks that played up their doll-like beauty, making the girls give the impression of being twins if not sisters upon first glance.[6]

Nara has been gaining a lot of attention just a month after debut that she got a role for Kim Jin Pyo's music video 'Sorry that i'm Sorry' featuring G.Na's vocals.[7] Despite being a newcomer, Nara has already been involved in multiple sectors of the entertainment industry including advertisement, photoshoots, and music videos.

On July 4, 2012, together with the group, they released "Like a Wave", off the digital album 'Like a Wave (Digital Repackage)'. On November 19, Pledis Entertainment said Hello Venus is to make a comeback mid-December as a full six-member group. On December 16, they made their comeback on Inkigayo with their 2nd mini album "What Are You Doing Today?".

Their fanmeeting tickets had been sold out completely as soon as they went on sale. They performed various songs including 'Venus', 'Like a Wave', and 'What Are You Doing Today?'.

Hello Venus' 3rd Mini-Album debuted at #6 on Gaon Chart's national physical albums ranking. The mini album sold about eight thousand copies for the month of May.
