Kurt Metzger is an American comedian. Metzger's stand-up act was featured on Byron Allen's "Comics Unleashed" in 2009, and his hour-long stage act titled "Kurt Metzger Talks to Young People About Sex" was released digitally on Comedy Central Records in 2011.[1][2][3][4] He provides the voice of Randall Skeffington in Comedy Central's animated series Ugly Americans.[1][5] He has also written for television programs such as Chappelle's Show and Inside Amy Schumer.[1][6][7][8]

Early life

Metzger was raised as a Jehovah's Witness and became an ordained minister at the age of 17; he left the faith at about the age of 31, around the time he started doing stand-up.[1][9] He is of Jewish descent on his mother's side and of Bosnian descent on his paternal side and has regularly spent time in his father's home town of Srebrenica during his youth. As a child he enjoyed watching An Evening at the Improv and Comic Strip Live;[4] he was also a fan of The Amazing Jonathan and Jeff Dunham in his youth.[4]

Career

Metzger first performed stand-up at The Stress Factory in New Brunswick, New Jersey although he mainly performed in the Philadelphia area during his early career; he then moved on to perform in the comedy clubs of New York City.[1][4][7]

In 2006 Metzger performed on Showtime's White Boyz in the Hood as well as Comedy Central's Live at Gotham the following year.[1][10] In 2009 he appeared in an episode of the IFC series Z Rock.[1][10]

In 2015 Metzger was a semi-finalist on Last Comic Standing;[10][11] a bit he performed about Mohammed Atta won him "best joke" on the show.[4]

Metzger appeared on The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson on February 7, 2011.[12] On June 28 of that same year Comedy Central Records released an hour-long recording of Metzger performing at the Helium Comedy Club in Philadelphia; the digital album was titled Kurt Metzger Talks to Young People About Sex.[1][4]

He currently hosts the "Race Wars" podcast with comedian Sherrod Small.

Controversies

Metzger has repeatedly confronted people online. In 2011, he criticized writer Rebecca Watson via Facebook over her altercation with Richard Dawkins.[13] In 2013, he criticized writers Lindy West and Sady Doyle via Facebook and Twitter during a defense of rape humor.[14] During this exchange, he admitted to abusing an ex-girlfriend in a domestic violence incident.[15] In 2015, Metzger confronted Vice (magazine) writer Claudia C. via Facebook and Twitter.[16] Metzger has also mentioned his domestic violence incident on his podcast "Race Wars",[17] as well as on the WTF with Marc Maron podcast.[18]
