Kulebaki (Russian: Кулеба́ки) is a town and the administrative center of Kulebaksky District in Nizhny Novgorod Oblast, Russia, located 188 kilometers (117 mi) southwest of Nizhny Novgorod, the administrative center of the oblast. Population: 35,759(2010 Census);[3] 39,072(2002 Census);[6] 45,727(1989 Census).[7]

History

The village of Kulebaki was first mentioned in 1719. Town status was granted to it in 1932.

Administrative and municipal status

Within the framework of administrative divisions, Kulebaki serves as the administrative center of Kulebaksky District.[1] As an administrative division, it is, together with the settlement of Ulyishche, incorporated within Kulebaksky District as the town of district significance of Kulebaki.[1] As a municipal division, the town of district significance of Kulebaki is incorporated within Kulebaksky Municipal District as Kulebaki Urban Settlement.[2]

Economy

The local metal-working plant, Ruspolymet, founded in 1866 and originally producing equipment for railway industry, is now producing components for aerospace industry as well.[8]
