Koboko is a town in Northern Uganda. It is the main municipal, administrative and commercial centre of Koboko District. The district is named after the town. Koboko is also the hometown of the now-deceased former dictator, Idi Amin Dada (1925 - 2003), who ruled Uganda between 1971 and 1979.

Location

Koboko is located approximately 55 kilometres (34 mi), by road, north of Arua, the largest city in the sub-region.[2] This location lies approximately 485 kilometres (301 mi), by road, northwest of Kampala, the capital of Uganda and the largest city in that country.[3] The coordinates of the town are:3°24'36.0"N, 30°57'36.0"E (Latitude:3.4100; Longitude:30.9600).[4]

Population

In 2002, the national census estimated the population of Koboko at about 29,730. In 2010, the Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS), estimated the population of the town at about 48,200. In 2011, UBOS estimated the mid-year population of the town of Koboko at 51,300.[5] In 2014, the national population census put Koboko's population at 37,825.[1]
