Kingsway Park High School is an 11–16 [1] mixed Foundation School that opened in September 2010.[2][3] The school is located in the Kingsway area of the Metropolitan Borough of Rochdale in Greater Manchester, United Kingdom. The school has approximately 995 students on roll, the majority of these students are from ethnic minority backgrounds, mostly of Pakistani heritage.[4]
History
The school was established as a result of an amalgamation[3] of Balderstone Technology College and Springhill High School under the Building Schools for the Future program.[2][5][6]
The schools trust, Kingsway Learning Trust Limited was established in May 2010 by partner school Middleton Technology School along with Rochdale Sixth Form College and the Rochdale local authority. Middleton Technology School continues to support Kingsway Park High School, this includes the use of staff from the partner school.[7]
School performance
During the school's first Ofsted inspection in October 2011, the school was given an overall result as satisfactory. GCSE results were described as low and students did not make expected progress from predicted results. However pupil attendance is good and the school is also described as improving.[4]
New school building
Under the Building Schools for the Future program, the school will receive a new building built on the former Springhill High School site on Turf Hill Road, the new building is scheduled to open September 2013.[8]
