Kings Christian Church
Kings Christian Church is a Pentecostal Christian church affiliated with Australian Christian Churches, the Assemblies of God in Australia. The church is located in Buderim. The Buderim Congregation have fellowship in the 700 seat auditorium formerly known as the 'Champions Centre'. Current Senior Pastors James and Samantha Macpherson took the leadership of the church in January 2010, following the resignation of Pastor Steve Penny.
Activities
The church made news in 2003 when Penny signed a twelve-month contract to be flown by helicopter to pastor church services at Caloundra, Buderim and Noosa in Queensland every Sunday.[1]
In 2007, the church was featured as an example of how church had changed in Queensland, Australia. Penny said that "In the past it was all smells, bells, rules and rituals and we want to take the cringe factor out of church and make it a comfortable place for people".[2] However, the church has been criticized because of a perceived focus on asking for donations from parishioners.
The church was also featured with predictions that young people in Queensland are marrying earlier than the national average. The report stated that the national average was 30 for men and 28 for women, whilst the trend in the church was for men and women to marry younger.[3]
The church celebrated the opening of its new building in April 2007 with the giveaway of seven cars to people in need on the Sunshine Coast of Queensland [4]
