Kim Seol-hyun (Hangul: 김설현; born January 3, 1995), better known as Seolhyun, is a South Korean idol singer and actress. She is best known for being the lead dancer of the South Korean girl group AOA under FNC Entertainment.

Biography

Seolhyun was born on January 3, 1995, in Bucheon, South Korea.^[1] She attended Arts High School and she's currently attending Kyung Hee University majoring in the film department. She played piano since childhood (her mother is a piano teacher), she wanted to be a singer when she was in a school club band while learning dancing. She met the current FNC Entertainment manager at the Smart Uniform Model Contest.

On July 30, 2012, Seolhyun made her debut as a member of AOA on Mnet's M! Countdown with their debut single, Angels' Story, with the title track "Elvis".^[2][3]

2012-present: Solo activities and rising popularity

In her pre-debut days, Seolhyun won the 8th SMART Model Contest, where she was scouted by her current manager at FNC.^[4]

Seolhyun appeared in the music video for boy band F.T. Island's song "Severely" from the EP Grown-Up which was released on January 31, 2012.^[5]

In 2012 she was cast in a supporting role in the television drama My Daughter Seo-young.^[6] She played Seo Eun-soo, an acting teacher.^[7]

On February 5, 2013 Seolhyun and actress Lee Se-young were chosen as the new models of skincare brand Clean & Clear. The brand stated, "We chose them as the new models because of their clear, clean skin and we also thought their healthy and bright charm would suit our brand concept."^[8]

On April 23, 2013 Seolhyun was cast in the daily drama Ugly Alert. She plays the youngest daughter of the family Gong Na-ri,^[9] a bright girl who dreams of becoming an actress. This was her second drama and her first leading role. Seolhyun stated, "I'm nervous about doing a new project, and I'm also burdened. But I want to work hard again by thinking of it as another learning experience. I also want to touch the hearts of people."^[10]

Seolhyun then starred in the 2015 film Gangnam Blues, marking her big screen debut.^[11] She beat 500 other people,^[12] who auditioned for the role of Seon-hye, the beloved younger sister of protagonist Kim Jong-dae (played by Lee Min-ho).^[13]

In 2014 Seolhyun modeled for denim brand 'Buckaroo' and sportwear brand 'Mizuno Snow Gear'.^[14]

Seolhyun was cast together with CNBLUE's Kang Min-hyuk and others in a new KBS variety show, Brave Family.^[15] The program was canceled because of poor ratings after airing for 10 episodes.^[16]

On February 10, 2015 it was revealed that Seolhyun would play the female lead in KBS2 Friday drama Orange Marmalade. The drama began airing on May 15, 2015. Seolhyun playing the role of Baek Ma-ri, a teenage vampire,^[17] for which she won the award at the 2015 KBS Drama Awards for the most popular actress.

On April 9, 2015 Seolhyun became the new model for fashion mall 'Enter 6'.^[18] On April 30, 2015 was revealed that Seolhyun together with other actors will star in a new advertising campaign for SK Telecom, a drama named 'Let's Be Strange'.^[19] In May 2015, Seolhyun played the lead role in N.Flying's debut music video "Awesome", which was released on May 20.^[20]

In August 26, 2015, Seolhyun was casted for the thriller movie Murderer’s Guide to Memory. She will play the role of a murderer’s daughter. The movie will be directed by Won Shin-yeon and plans to start shooting in late September for a release the following year.^[21]

In November, Seolhyun together with Lee Min-ho were selected as promotional ambassadors for 'Visit Korea Year'.^[22] In January 2016 Seolhyun become a new model for 'Hazzys Accessories'.^[23]

Seolhyun will be a regular guest on Law of the Jungle in Tonga. She'll start filming in January 31, 2016.^[24]
