Khyber Medical College is a public medical institution located in the city of Peshawar, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. Beside undergraduate medical education, the college offers teaching and research facilities to the postgraduate students, i.e., M. Phil, in all basic Medical Sciences, FCPS in Clinical as well as basic medical sciences, and minor diplomas in many specialties.[1]

It is one of the several medical schools affiliated with Khyber Medical University and is recognised by PMDC, General Medical Council of UK, Ireland and licensing authority of USA. Khyber Medical College is listed in the International Medical Education Directory which is a requirement for eligibility for the USMLE.

History

Khyber Medical College was established in 1954 and is the oldest medical college in the province. The college started functioning in 1955 with the enrolment of 50 students. It has produced over 9,000 graduates since then and hundreds of postgraduates. Khyber Teaching Hospital is a 1200-bedded hospital, established in 1976, for teaching/training purposes.

Library

Khyber Medical College library was established in September 1955 and has a total of 35,300/- volumes of current Medical books and more than 8,000 bound volumes of journals.

Library is split into two sections. One is specific for reference purpose used by the staff and other professionals involved in research. Student section has the study portion where students can study. [3]
