Kevin Rafter

Kevin Rafter is an Irish journalist and academic.

He is an academic member of staff at the School of Communications, DCU, Glasnevin.

He is former Political Editor and Assistant Editor of the Sunday Tribune newspaper in Dublin, political reporter with The Irish Times, political correspondent with the Sunday Times and Editor of Magill magazine. He has also presented radio news programmes with RTÉ including This Week on RTÉ Radio 1 and worked as a correspondent with the Prime Time television programme on RTÉ One.

He is the author of histories of several political parties including Clann na Poblachta (Mercier, 1996), Sinn Féin (Gill and Macmillan, 2005) and Fine Gael (New Island, 2009) as well as biographies of Martin Mansergh (New Island, 2002) and Neil Blaney (Blackwater, 1993). His doctorate thesis is a study of small political parties with Democratic Left as a case-study. He also co-wrote a best-selling book with former broadcasting colleague Charlie Bird, titled This is Charlie Bird (Gill and Macmillan, 2006).
