History

Mayor Bill Nighbert and Tourism Director Alvin Sharpe needed to renovate the city's public swimming pool, which had been run down for some time. The facility needed repairs in excess of half a million dollars, and they decided to add a few slides and a watering mushroom to make the pool more attractive. However, the idea of a full waterpark, like the one in a neighboring town, was approved. The city acquired a 55-acre (22 ha) farm to build the recreation area called Hal Rogers Family Entertainment Center.

The park opened in May 2001 featuring a few slides, a wavepool, a kiddy area, a lazyriver, a golf course, and go kart track.

In 2010, the park expanded with two twisting slides called Aquatwist.
