Kennedy Mitchell (born October 25, 1971) is a currency trader and author of Single Stock Futures: An Investor's Guide.[1] Mitchell was credited by Barron's Magazine in the 1990s with developing several new trading strategies that were previously not available prior to the introduction of single stock futures in the United States.
Life and career
Mitchell was born in New Haven, Connecticut and was educated at the Cheshire Academy in Cheshire, Connecticut, following which he attended the American College of Switzerland, and Marymount College in Palos Verdes California Marymount College, Palos Verdes.
His first job in finance was at Gruntal and Company in Boston Massachusetts, from there he moved to Prudential Securities, shortly thereadter being recruited by Coast Capital Management, a hedge fund in Boston as a junior portfolio manager, working primarily with currencies. His next position was at Meridian Asset Management in San Francisco from 1998-2004, where he again traded currencies as a portfolio manager. He next worked as a portfolio manager at Graham Capital in Rowayton, Connecticut.
In 2002, his hedge fund, Triumvirate Capital, began to work with financial vehicles specifically dedicated to single-stock futures.[2][3] He currently serves as the Founder and Chief Investment Officer of the Bedford Investment Group LLC.
Mitchell also introduced new option trading strategies based on the VIX Volatility Index, published by the Chicago Board Options Exchange (CBOE), that were featured in numerous Barron's Magazine articles. These articles popularized his trading approach and resulted in the index value being published in every subsequent version of the magazine.
Family
Mitchell is the great-grandson of former Connecticut Senator and Congressman William Kennedy, and the son of Kennedy Mitchell Sr. for whom the Kennedy Mitchell Hall of Records, in New Haven is named.
