Keelaparasalur Veerateswarar Temple

Keelaparasalur Veerateswarar Temple is a Hindu temple located at Keelaparasalur in Nagapattinam district of Tamil Nadu, India. The historical name of the place is Tirupparialur.[1] The presiding deity is Shiva. He is called as Veerateswarar. His consort is known as Ilam Kobanayal.

Significance

It is one of the shrines of the 275 Paadal Petra Sthalams - Shiva Sthalams glorified in the early medieval Tevaram poems by Tamil Saivite Nayanar Tirugnanasambandar.

Literary Mention

Tirugnanasambandar describes the feature of the deity as:[2]

விளங்கொண் மலர்மே லயனோத வண்ணன்

துளங்கும் மனத்தார் தொழத்தழ லாய்நின்றான்
இளங்கொம் பனாளோ டிணைந்தும் பிணைந்தும்
விளங்குந் திருப்பறியல் வீரட்டத் தானே.
