Kavya Shetty

Kavya Shetty is an Indian film actress and model. Starting her career as a fashion model, she took part at the 2011 Femina Miss India beauty pageant. She went on to work as a commercial model, before venturing into acting, debuting in the 2013 Kannada film Nam Duniya Nam Style.

Early life

Kavya was born and brought up in Mangalore, Karnataka.^[2] She is a Tuluva ^[3] and her parents are Manohar Shetty, an Economics Professor and Vasanthi Shetty, a retired bank employee. After doing her schooling in Mangalore, she graduated in Computer Science Engineering from N.M.A.M. Institute of Technology, Nitte in 2010.

Career

While studying she began modelling. She later moved to Bangalore and took part at the 2011 Femina Miss India beauty pageant,^[2] winning the ‘Miss Photogenic’ title.^[4] She was also a finalist at the Ford Super Model of the World – India contest held at New Delhi in 2011.^[5][6] She was noticed by fashion guru Prasad Bidapa and subsequently walked the ramp for several designers, most notably at the ‘Blenders Pride Bangalore Fashion Week’ in 2011 and 2012 and Chennai International Fashion Week 2011.^[7]

Besides catwalking at fashion shows, she worked as a commercial model and appeared in several print and television advertisements.^[2] Few of her most notable endorsements in print are Reliance Jewels (2012), Malabar Gold (2012), Palam Silks (2011), Psr and Club Mahindra. Her television advertisements include Clinic Plus (2012), Toyota Altis (2011) and Santoor (2011).

In 2012, Kavya entered the Indian film industry. She first signed for the Kannada romance film I am in Love ^[8] and for Shivani, a bilingual horror flick, made in Telugu and Tamil,^[9] in which she played a journalist.^[3] However, the delay of both films meant that Shetty's maiden release was the Kannada film Nam Duniya Nam Style (2013) by Preetham Gubbi.^[4] While the film received mixed reviews, critics noted that Shetty had "given (a) lively performance" ^[10] and "show(n) tremendous promise".^[11] I am in Love had a low-profile release two months later.^[12] Her future releases include the romantic thriller Natudu, her first Telugu project, in which plays the role of a medical student,^[2] the Tamil film Avam ^[13] and the semi-period Kannada film Vijayaaditya.^[2] She has also been cast as one of the female leads in A. L. Vijay's next Tamil film, that according to Shetty is a "fun-filled" romantic drama set against a college backdrop.^[14]
