Kamran Afshar Naderi

Kamran Afshar Naderi is a well known Iranian architect and architectural lobbyist and critic.

Biography

Kamran Afshar Naderi was born in 1959 in Mashhad, Iran. He started his studies in architecture in 1977 in Tehran university. In 1980 he moved to Italy and resumed his studies at the University of Genoa, where he graduated in the field of architecture. His thesis concerned the methodologies of design in the ancient Iran from the 11th to the 17th century.

Professional career

His professional career started in 1986 in Italy. Until 1993 he collaborated with several well-known Italian and international companies such as Renzo Piano Building Workshop. As a design team member, he was involved in Kansai Airport (Osaka) and Lingotto rehabilitation projects (Turin). During his stay in Italy he worked out several industrial and urban design projects. In 1993, he established his own office in Tehran. Since that time he performed several projects for international organizations and companies: Italian Embassy, Italian School, Danish Embassy, Austrian Embassy, Netherlands Embassy, Japanese Embassy, Norwegian Embassy, UNDP, World Bank, Nuovo Pignone, Shell, MAN Ferrostaal, Bayer, Festo and Ebara. In 1995 and 2001-2002, Afshar Naderi was working in Bahram Shirdel's office as involving in Ekbatan Cultural Center and Iranian Embassy in Brasilia projects. Since 2009 Afshar Naderi has collaborated with Intertecno, an Italian engineering firm, on two important renovation projects: Azadi 5 star hotel (55.000 sqm) and Bonyad headquarter offices (30.000 sqm) in Tehran. Afshar Naderi undergoing projects are, weekend village near Tehran for a group of Iranian famous cinema actors, Villa near Karaj (on 10.000 sqm plot), Restaurant in Doha, Qatar, Sanamed pharmaceutical industries in Eyvane Key and Bayer pharmaceutical Company office in Tehran. Recently, Afshar Naderi has been assigned as the "Branch Manager" of Intertecno Company in Iran. Some of Afshar Naderi’s projects have been published on the local architectural magazines, mostly in Memar magazine which he is a member of editorial, and reviewed by International web sites dedicated to architecture: Archdaily, MIMOA, Pinterest, Designboom,…

Academic career

Since 1993, Afshar Naderi has taught at Azad and Soureh Universities of Tehran (non continuously). Afshar Naderi has published about 150 articles and 3 books about Iranian and contemporary architecture. His essays and interviews are published in Iran, Italy, England, Switzerland, Kuwait, Turkey, Cyprus and Germany. His papers about the "design process" are used as university textbook in Faculty of Architecture of Azad University. In 1998, Seyed Reza Hashemi and Soheila Beski founded Memar Magazine and hired Afshar Naderi as a member of the editorial board. Since 2009 he collaborates with Iranian Architecture Center for delivering seminars and holding educational workshops related to architecture. Recently, Kamran Afshar Naderi, Negar Hakim (adjunct lecturer at University of Vienne) and Mohammadreza Ghaneei (a well known architect established in Isfahan), have founded POL Institute for cultural activities and events in Isfahan.

Competition Juries

Afshar Naderi has been regularly jury member of Memar award which caused some conflicts in accordance with the award credibility. This award, founded by Seyed Reza Hamshmi (currently an adviser to the ministry in Iran) and Memar magazine. His position has been criticized by several critics in Iranian architectural journals. Afshar Naderi has been jury member of several other competitions and awards in Iran.
