Kala Shah Kaku
Coordinates: 31°45′N 74°14′E / 31.750°N 74.233°E Kala Shah Kaku (KSK) is a town of Sheikhupura District, Pakistan on the M2 motorway next to Rana town on G.T Road. It is located 19 km west of the city of Lahore.[1] Near KSK at University city there is Uet KSK campus and now GC University campus. The establishment of KSK Campus was taken up in 2006 on Lahore Bypass so as to inter act with industry located on Lahore-Gujranwala and Lahore-Sheikhupura road.
Many new government buildings are being built here. The important ones are Pakistan Space Programme, Courts and Land revenue departments, University of Health Sciences and Punjab Cadet College.
Kala Shah Kaku is an industrial area. There are many industries located here. Among famous industries located here are Punjab Steel mills, Ravi Ryon, Chip board factories, Rubber glue factories Itehad Chemical Industries and various other industries.
A big housing scheme of international standards with the name of SA Gardens is located here. Raza Khel Caltex Petrol Pump and CNG Station is also located on main G.T Road in Kala Shah Kaku right next to motorway interchange and Lahore Toll Plaza .
It was earlier famous due to Pakistan State Oil Depot being located here. This depot was the main source of fuel supply to Lahore, gujranwala, sheikhupura and Qasoor etc. etc. It is the main entry point for Lahore if one is coming from Peshawer, Rawalpindi, Sialkot, Kharian, Gujrat, Jehlum, Wazirabad, Gujranwala via Grand Trunk Road i.e. G.T Road. Entry is through M-2 Motorway Interchange KSK which then leads to Lahore via Babu Sabu Interchange and Thokar Niaz Baig Interchange.
The first ground station of Paksat-1R has been established in Kala Shah Kaku (KSK) controlled by SUPARCO. The second ground station will be set up in Karachi. Paksat-1R was launched on August 12 from Xichang Satellite Launch Centre by China Great Wall Industry Corporation (CGWIC). It was moved to its designated position at 38 degree East in the geo-stationary orbit to replace the existing satellite Paksat-1. It has 32 transponders with three communication antennas to cover whole of Pakistan and 75 other countries across Asia, East Africa and part of Western Europe. It has a useful life span of 15 years.[2]
Macdonalds restaurant has opened here in KSK recently in 2011. Other famous eating out places are Pind Food Court and Afghan Reham karia BBQ and Ravi Rayyan Restaurant.
