Cast

Signature of Malayalam

‘Kadhaveedu’ shares the beauty, shams and relevance of matrimony, presented from the perspective of its protagonist, a filmmaker who seeks answers to a very personal question… ‘Kadhaveedu’ delves into almost every aspect of marriage and married life. The love and the hate that seeps into matrimony, the disparities relating to individual tastes, the sense of loss that follows the death of a partner and much more is discussed in the film. The film pans realities inside the house and zooms in on the proximities as well as the distances that are part of every relationship, plus the tumbling and eventual ruin that sometimes is integral to matrimony. ‘Kadhaveedu’ is a dedication to Malayalam being accorded the Shresthabhaasha ( Malayalam has been declared a Classical language in 2013 ) status and presents, as a single entity, three different stories penned by the doyens of Malayalam literature - Vaikkom Muhammed Basheer, M T Vasudevan Nair and Madhavikutty.

The film is an anthology with adaptations of stories written by renowned Malayalam fiction writers Basheer, M. T. Vasudevan Nair and Madhavikutty (Kamala Surayya).. The stories have been tweaked to fit in a modern setting and the script has been conceived by the director himself. Bengali actress Rituparna Sengupta forayed into Malayalam cinema by playing an important role in the film.[2] She was suggested for the role by director Priyadarshan with whom she had worked in the film Bumm Bumm Bole.[3] "Director Sohanlal has been pursuing me for the role for a year now.[4] But once I heard the role of Rita, I knew it had all the subtleties for a great performance. Plus, the script read more like poetry rather than a scene-by-scene film," says Rituparna.[5] Actress Bhama plays the female lead in MT's script, opposite Kunchacko Boban. She plays the role of a scribe.[3]
