KIPH
KIPH (88.3 FM) is an American non-commercial educational radio station licensed to serve the community of Hāna, Hawaii. The station, established in April 2011, is owned and operated by Hawaii Public Radio, Inc.
Programming
KIPH broadcasts a news/talk radio format during the day and overnight plus jazz music during the evenings to the eastern portion of Maui.[2] Select programming on KIPH, including the BBC World Service, Talk of the Nation, The World, All Things Considered, Fresh Air, and Marketplace, is sourced from NPR, Public Radio International, and American Public Media.[3] KIPH and KIPM operate as simulcasts of sister station KIPO as part of the Hawaii Public Radio station group.[2]
History
In October 2007, Hawaii Public Radio applied to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) for a construction permit for a new broadcast radio station. The FCC granted this permit on April 11, 2008, with a scheduled expiration date of April 11, 2011.[4] The new station was assigned call sign "KHPH" on October 23, 2009.[1] While construction continued, the permit holder had the FCC change the call sign to "KIPH" on January 12, 2011.[1] After construction and testing were completed in early April 2011, the station was granted its broadcast license on April 22, 2011.[5]
