"Just Gettin' Started" is a song written by Chris DeStefano, Rhett Akins and Ashley Gorley and recorded by American country music artist Jason Aldean. It was released in November 2014 as the second single from his sixth studio album, Old Boots, New Dirt.
Critical reception
The song received negative reviews from several critics. Vickeye Fisher of For The Country Record gave the song a very negative review, heavily criticizing the rock and R&B influenced production as well as the sex-orientated lyrics, saying that "It’s similar to ‘Burnin’ It Down’ sonically in the way that it’s programmed, but adds another layer of his cringe-worthy faux-metal sound for a truly awful listening experience. Stupidly though, this’ll likely be another #1 smash for Jason, if we stop to consider his star at the moment and the fact that bro-country still refuses to die down."[1] In his review of the album, Josh Schott of Country Perspective gave the song a similar review, also criticizing its lyrics and saying that "It’s a song about Aldean driving around with a girl and trying to have sex with her. The lyrics are shallow and cliché and the vibe of this song is similar to “Burnin’ It Down.”"[2] Kevin John Coyne of Country Universe rated the song a "D", calling it "Competently performed. Creatively stagnant. Completely unnecessary."[3]
One of the few positive reviews came from Taste of Country, whose review stated that "Jason Aldean’s ‘Just Gettin’ Started’ returns to what fans have come to count on from the Georgia-born country rocker. Hard-charging, guitar-drenched songs about love in the fast lane earned him a fine reputation. This latest cut builds on his legacy."[4]
