"Just a Job to Do" is a song by Genesis. It was released on their 1983 self-titled album Genesis. The lyrics, written by guitarist–bassist Mike Rutherford, tell the story of a hit man pursuing his victim.[1]
The song's working title during recording sessions was "M J".[2]
On some early pressings of the Genesis album, this song was illustrated by a somewhat generic cartoon drawing of a detective. Other editions show the Dick Tracy character instead.
This song was used as the theme song for the short-lived ABC Television series, "The Insiders" which ran during the fall 1985 season.
