The Daily Union

The Daily Union is the city newspaper for Junction City, Geary County, Kansas, United States, and one of the oldest in the state.[1]

The paper had its origin in the Smoky Hill and Republican Union which began publishing on September 19, 1861, founded by George W. Kingsbury.[2][3] The Daily Union in its final incarnation began publishing on June 24, 1896, under the ownership of John Montgomery, E.M. Gilbert, and W.C. Moore.[2][3]

The paper is locally owned by Montgomery Communications, Inc. The Montgomery family first obtained a stake in the ownership in 1888.[2][4]<ref name"lawrence73">The Montgomerys, Lawrence Journal-World, February 9, 1973 (noting return to town of John Grey Montgomery, son of John D., to publish paper)</ref>
