Football career
After starting playing football with local teams,[1] Sabas went on to appear as a senior for Rayo Vallecano, Atlético Madrid (where he was used mainly as a substitute[2]), Real Betis, CP Mérida, Albacete Balompié, Real Balompédica Linense, Hércules CF and Ciudad de Murcia,[3] starting and finishing his 17-year senior career with Galáctico Pegaso and retiring at the age of 35.
Sabas played in over 300 overall official games as a professional (196 in La Liga over the course of nine seasons with 34 goals, adding 82/17 in Segunda División). He returned to Atlético in early 2009, as part of former teammate Abel Resino's coaching staff.[2] He had already worked with that coach in that capacity, at Ciudad de Murcia and Levante UD.
