Jonathan Wrather (born 16 March 1969)[1] is an English actor and editor. He is known for his soap opera roles in Coronation Street as Joe Carter from 2002 until 2003, and in Emmerdale as Pierce Harris from 2016 to onwards.[2][3]
Early life
Wrather was born in Cheshire in North England.[1] He attended Sedbergh School located in the Lake District in Cumbria, it was there went he found his passion to become a professional actor.[1] He was encouraged by his English teacher on take on acting and he left school in 1987 to pursue an acting career.[1]
Career
Wrather began his professional acting career in 1993 working on the television series Cracker for one episode credited as "Sammy's Boyfriend". He continued to make one-off television role appearances and later went on to star in the television film Mrs. Hartley and the Growth Centre portraying the role of an unnamed police officer. Later, Wrather appeared in other television shows, such as: Family Affairs as Duncan Hart for two episodes, The Bill as Mark Osbourne for two episodes, and Crossroads for two episodes portraying the role of Sam Delaney.
His series regular television debut was in the ITV soap opera Coronation Street taking on the role of Joe Carter. She remained on the show from 26 May 2002 until 20 June 2003. he appeared in the show for 107 episodes.
In January 2016, it was confirmed that Wrather would be portraying the role of Pierce Harris in another ITV soap opera called Emmerdale, introduced as the husband of Tess Harris (Nicola Stephenson).[2] On the day on his character's arrival, Tess was killed off of the soap.[3] His role will be as a series regular just like he previously had in Coronation Street back in the early 2000s.
