Sir John Stainton Whitehead GCMG CVO (20 September 1932 – 8 November 2013) [1] was a British diplomat and businessman.[2]
Career
Whitehead was educated at Christ's Hospital and Hertford College, Oxford and joined the British Foreign Service in 1955 after a period of National Service.[3]
He was Ambassador from the United Kingdom to Japan from 1986 until 1992.[3]
After his retirement from the diplomatic service, he was a senior advisor to Deutsche Bank, Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO) and other international companies.[4]
He became Chairman of Deutsche Morgan Grenfell Trust Bank (Japan).[4]
