John Utendahl

John Utendahl was the owner of the Utendahl Group, one of the largest African American-owned investment banking groups in the United States.^[1] As of March 25th, 2010 Utendahl Joined Deutsche Bank Americas as the Vice Chairman. ^[2]

Early life and career

Utendahl was born in the borough of Queens in New York City and is of African American and Dutch descent. Mr Utendahl earned a bachelor's degree in Business Administration from Long Island University, Brooklyn Campus and acquired an MBA from Columbia University.

A veteran on Wall Street, Utendahl ran the most successful minority-run investment bank in the United States until its final days in 2009. With an estimated net worth of over $10 million, Utendahl was regularly recognized for his quick thinking and charm.

Due to the economic decline, John Utendahl's broker dealer, Utendahl Capital Partners, went out of business on January 31, 2010. Williams Capital Group assumed what was left of the now defunct company. Mr. Utendahl is currently only a minority stake-holder in Utendahl Capital Management, a small fixed income asset management firm.

On March 25, 2010, Utendahl joined Deutsche Bank Americas as Vice Chairman.

Personal life

Utendahl ended a long-term relationship with Tyra Banks. The two were not legally married but believed in lifetime partnership.. Utendahl has two daughters, Madison and Sydney, from a previous marriage to investment banker Phyllis Hollis. Banks and Utendahl are known to keep their relationship very private from the media. Banks has specifically spoken out against making her relationship public for both her own privacy and in protecting her "pseudo step daughters" Madison and Sydney.
