John Pluthero was the Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director, UK of Cable and Wireless, having joined following the sale of Energis having been its CEO. He joined Energis in September 2002.
Previously, he was brought into Freeserve by Dixons Stores Group in 1999 to lead the flotation of Freeserve on the London Stock Exchange and NASDAQ that same year.
Prior to this, he had held various strategy and operations positions within the group including Quality Director and Business Review Director.
Other experience includes senior positions with Holiday Inn Worldwide and P&O Developments. John is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales and has a degree in Economics.
Pluthero is expecting to receive a Bonus in excess of £10m as incentive from Shareholders in Summer 2009. (Times Online)

On 28 June 2011, the board of Cable & Wireless Worldwide accepted the resignation of Jim Marsh and announced that John Pluthero, current Chairman of the Company, was to step into the role of Chief Executive.
On 15 November 2011, Cable & Wireless Worldwide replaced Pluthero as chief executive less than six months after he took the job, after the beleaguered telecoms giant swung to a £433m half-year loss.
