Joanne Black (born 25 October 1974 in County Cavan, Ireland) is a former Irish model and actress, later working as a stylist in London. She took part in beauty pageants, becoming Miss Limerick Photogenic, then Miss Ireland in 1995, at the age of 20. She represented Ireland at the Miss World[1] event in Cape Town in November 1995. She also attended the Miss Europe event in Tirana, Albania, and the Miss Universe pageant in Las Vegas in 1996.[2]

Career

Brought up in Cavan, Joanne Black started part-time modelling with the Holman Lee Modelling Agency[3] in 1990. She was crowned Miss Limerick Photogenic, then Miss Ireland in 1995. Black was then described as ‘Ireland’s most eligible young woman’.[4]

Black then studied acting at the Gaiety School of Acting[5] and the Dublin Media Centre. She moved to New York in 1998[6] to continue her studies at the Lee Strasberg Acting School.[7] While there, working under the name Siobhan Ni Dubh,[8] Black took a walk-on part in The Thomas Crown Affair (1999 film)[9] and appeared in the movie Tumbling Dice[10] alongside Francesco Quinn.[11]

Black moved back to London in 2001 and continued modelling, working for Amanda Wakeley, DAKS, Jenny Packman, Paolo Frani, Penny Black, Save the Queen and Luis Civit. She later trained in styling at the London College of Fashion[12] and Aston and Hayes Image Consultancy.[13] She qualified in 2008 and set up image consultancy business Joanne Black Style. She is an affiliate member of tfic (The Federation of Image Consultants).[14]
