Jimmy Alvarez

Jimmy Alvarez is a media/business professional, radio personality and author. Based in southern California, Alvarez is currently an executive producer at TNN Radio and on-air personality at KX935 (KXRN, 93.5 FM, Laguna Beach, California). Alvarez is a former segment producer and on-air personality at 106.7 KROQ in Los Angeles, California.

Radio

After working as a club DJ in Los Angeles in the early 80s, Alvarez was hired as a segment producer at KROQ 106.7 FM in 1988.^[1] This was during the time when KROQ was an Infinity Broadcasting Corporation station. In the late 80's to mid 90's Jimmy produced Openline, KROQ's Public Affairs program with Scott Mason, Boyd "Doc on the Rock" Britton, Gene "Bean" Baxter (of Kevin and Bean) and evening joq Doug "Sluggo" Roberts. Alvarez acquired his FCC license in 1989, enabling him to move over to live on-air broadcasting. In this capacity, he worked with Native Wayne Jobson on KROQ's Reggae Revolution and with former Loveline host Swedish Egil Aalvik on "All Night Radio." Jimmy was also an occasional co-host. Alvarez also did occasional segment producing for Rodney Bingenheimer.

Jimmy teamed up with Egil, assisting in the production of live programs in the early days of Mars FM - KDLD (103.1FM), which was based in Santa Monica, California. Some of his work included their original dance radio programs.

Finance

In 1996, Alvarez temporarily left radio to pursue his ventures in banking/finance. Alvarez became the Vice President of Operations at a mortgage subsidiary of Lehman Brothers. During his tenure, he authored a book titled "Real Estate Lending in the New Millennium",^[2] released in 2007 by Red Lead Press as an encyclopedic guide to the world of Real Estate investing and specifically sub-prime markets.

During the financial crisis of 2007-2008, Alvarez left Lehman Brothers to work in Risk Management and legislative analytics where he represented financial institutions throughout the country. Since then, he has continued to write about the financial world in articles with financial media outlets such as DS News.^[3]

TNN Radio

In 2006, Alvarez returned to the broadcasting industry, launching the internet radio program TNN Radio.^[4] The program streams alternative music, ska, and punk from the '80s through the modern day. Until April 2014, the program was broadcast live from the American Radio Network Studios in Anaheim, California on Saturday afternoons with Alvarez as the host. The music format is similar to that of KROQ, 91X in San Diego, and Live 105 in San Francisco. Starting May 4, 2014, the show broadcasts Sundays from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. (Pacific Time Zone), KX935 (93.5 FM) in Laguna Beach, California.

In 2013, Alvarez became an Academy Member of the OC Music Awards, and also serves as a judge for their Live Band Music Showcase.

Annually, Alvarez has featured interviews on the Southern California leg of the Vans Warped Tour. He also covers MusInk, Air + Style and was a regular at the Sunset Strip Music Festival as well as the Orange County Music Awards.

In December 2013, Alvarez's video interview with the band American Authors was featured on the band's website to coincide with the release of their album, Oh, What a Life, in March 2014.

Notably, Alvarez's program on TNN was the platform which the band Suburban Legends chose to announce their album Day Job.^[5]

In March, 2015 Alvarez produced an interview segment for KX935 morning show with blues icon Buddy Guy.

In February 2016, Alvarez set and conducted interviews with the KX935 Morning show and TNN RADIO to promote the 2016 MusInk Festival with festival organizers John Reese and Travis Barker.

Currently, Jimmy can be heard on KX935 (93.5 FM / KXFM) in Laguna Beach, California. This station broadcasts TNN Radio via a simulcast transmission both over terrestrial airwaves and the Internet.TNN Radio broadcasts Sunday's from 2-4pm (Pacific time) on the World Wide Web at www.kx935.com and www.tnnradio.org.

Under the TNN banner, Alvarez has contributed articles to publications such as Alternative Press, Rolling Stone, and Slam Scene Magazine.
