Jessica Madison "Jessie" Jacobs (14 November 1990 – 10 May 2008) was an Australian actress and singer. She was best known for her role as Melanie Atwood #2 on The Saddle Club.[1]

Biography

Born in Canberra, Australia, Jessie Jacobs was the middle child of Joanna and Brendan Jacobs. She was the sister of Adam, Seth and Charlie. Jessie began acting when she was 9. She studied ballet and classical violin when she was six. She eventually learned how to play the bass guitar.[2] In 2003 Jessie and Janelle Corlass-Brown released a CD Single for their song "Trouble" and they were both featured on "Friends Forever". She took over the role of Melanie Atwood on "The Saddle Club" after Marisa Siketa left the show. In the months before her death Jessie Jacobs took a break from acting to focus on school and music. Jessie Jacobs was planning to attend Victorian College of the Arts to establish herself as a musician and move in with her older brother Adam after she graduated from High School.[3] Jessie played the guitar in The Volten Sins.[4] Jessie was six months away from graduating from Sandringham College and getting her Victorian Certificate of Education. A year after Jessie died her mother started "The Jessica Jacobs School of Drama".[5] Jessie Jacobs was a member of Holy Trinity Anglican Church in St Kilda.[6]

Death

On 10 May 2008, Jacobs was walking along the platform at Cheltenham railway station, Melbourne when she tripped and fell onto the tracks and into the path of an oncoming train. She couldn't move out of the way in time and died instantly from her injuries when the train hit her. That day she was on the way to meet her mother so they could buy a birthday present for Adam. Jacobs was 17 when she died. The police took several hours to find the family because Jacobs, who was arriving home from an overnight stay with a friend, was carrying a fake ID. Jacobs is buried in St Kilda Cemetery in St Kilda, Victoria, Australia.[7]
