Jeļena Ostapenko (born 8 June 1997 in Riga) is a Latvian tennis player.
Ostapenko has won seven singles and eight doubles titles on the ITF tour in her career. On 21 September 2015, she reached her best singles ranking of world number 77. On 9 November 2015, she peaked at world number 152 in the doubles rankings.
Career
2014
Ostapenko won the singles event at the junior 2014 Wimbledon Championships[1] and was ranked the number 2 junior tennis player in the world in September 2014.[2]
She made her WTA tour main draw debut at the 2014 Tashkent Open. Having been awarded a wild card, she played Israeli Shahar Pe'er in the first round, defeating the former world number 11 in straight sets. In round two, she lost to Russian Ksenia Pervak.
2015
At Wimbledon in 2015, Ostapenko defeated the ninth seed Carla Suárez Navarro 6-2 6-0 in the first round before losing 6-4 7-5 to Kristina Mladenovic in the second.[3][4] In September she reached her career first WTA final at the Coupe Banque Nationals, where she lost to Annika Beck. At the US Open the same year, she beat Annika Beck in the first round, but lost her second-round match to Sara Errani.[5][6]
Playing for Latvia at the Fed Cup, Ostapenko has a win–loss record of 13–9.[7]
