Jangareddygudem is a town in the West Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh, India. This town essentially caters various needs of the surrounding villages in areas such as health, education, banking, transport, groceries, shopping, and other agricultural hardware and fertilizer businesses. The process of electronic tobacco auctioning was first introduced in India by the Jangareddygudem Tobacco Board. This Tobacco Board is one of the largest boards in the state.
Demographics
As of 2011 Census of India, the city had a population of 48,994. The total population constitute, 23,997 males and 24,997 females —a sex ratio of 1042 females per 1000 males, higher than the national average of 940 per 1000.[3] 5,082 children are in the age group of 0–6 years, of which 2,605 are boys and 2,477 are girls—a ratio of 951 per 1000. The average literacy rate stands at 80.09% (male 83.61%; female 76.75%) with 35,169 literates, significantly higher than the national average of 73.00%.[2][4]
Geography
Jangareddygudem is an upland (Not prone to floods or damp soils) agency (Scheduled Tribes and their resources are protected by law) area. Its average elevation is 74 metres (243 ft) above sea level.
Civic services
There are many hospitals and Diagnostic labs. It has the postal services facility operated by India Post, Govt. of India with a Head Office and comes under Eluru Postal Division. Services by private freight transport are mostly used for transporting agricultural products such as rice, wheat, sugarcane, oil-palm, and mangoes etc.
Water Plants
Potable water is provided for public through taps operated by local civic body. The water provided by civic body is not treated and the same water is used for consumption and other uses. But most of the houses have their own borewell fitted with electric motor for private use.
Tobacco Board
The Tobacco Farmers bring their crop to the Tobacco Board for auction, in which Tobacco Board authorized companies participate to buy tobacco from farmers with the Board acting as middle man facilitating the auction by providing the real estate and payment processing through banks. Tobacco Board is an arm of ITC Ltd (ILTD division) of Govt of India. The process of electronic auctioning of tobacco was first introduced in India at the Jangareddygudem Tobacco Board.
Transport
Roadways
Jangareddygudem has Bus Depot owned and operated by APSRTC which runs its services to most of the surrounding villages, important cities like Eluru and Vijayawada .Important towns in the district such as Kovvur, Tadepalligudem, Tanuku, Narsapuram, Bhimavaram etc. and to other cities namely Rajahmundry, Tirupathi Hyderabad etc. Also, there are private bus operators, operating buses from the town to various places.
AP State Highway 7 (Devarapalli - Tallada) passes through this town and has a by-pass to avoid going through town's traffic.
Railways
Jangareddigudem has no railway connectivity. The nearest train stations are Eluru, Vijayawada, Tadepalligudem, Kovvur, Rajahmundry.
