Bishop James Chan Soon Cheong, D.D. was born on July 26, 1926, in Selama, Perak. He was ordained a priest on Aug. 9, 1959. He was appointed Bishop of Melaka-Johor[1] on Dec. 22, 1972. His Episcopal ordination took place on June 8, 1973. He retired at the age of 75 years on Dec. 10, 2001.
