Jafrabad is a city and a municipality in Amreli District in the Indian state of Gujarat.
Demographics
As of 2001 India census,[1] Jafrabad had a population of 35,081. Males constitute 51% of the population and females 49%. Jafrabad has an average literacy rate of 49%, lower than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 61%, and female literacy is 37%. In Jafrabad, 17% of the population is under six years of age.
History
During the British Raj era, Jafarabad State was a princely state governed by a dynasty of Siddis. It was united with Janjira State by treaty since 1759.[2]
Places to visit
There is a 1,100-year-old Sukhnath temple here located in Bawaseri near the Brahma Samaj Vadi. There is 1200-year-old Varahavarup Temple located in Varahsvarup, 7 km from Jafrabad.
Description
For the first time the Chief-Minister came to meet the people living in Jafrabad and motivated them to increase literacy among girls. Today the people of Jafrabad want new companies and projects in the area to start developing the place. The climate in Jafrabad is not cloudy and not very hot. Since Jafrabad is a coastal town the main occupation of the people is fishing.
The presence of Naramada Cement Works (now a subsidiary of Ultra Tech Cement ) currently headed by Mr. Sunjoy Podaar at Babarkot village, 4 km from Jafrabad, has benefited the people for this town in providing employment. Ultra Tech Secondary and Higher Secondary School, is an English medium school operated by this company provide quality education to Jafrabad's population.
A Small Locality in the Capital, New Delhi
There is also a small locality in the Capital New Delhi, with the same name. It is a very old village of Delhi. A branch of Yamuna river used to flow passing this area in past.
There are total of nine Mosques in the area and it is mostly a Muslim dominated area. People are very helpful and live with peacefully.
Jafrabad has a population of approximately 1 Lakhs people.
