The JUIT Department of Pharmacy is a pharmacy school of Jaypee University of Information Technology, located in Waknaghat, of Indian state Himachal Pradesh. The department is situated in academic block of Jaypee University of Information Technology. The approval of Pharmacy Council of India (PCI) for BPharma should be cheaked at PCI website.,.[1][2] The Department offers Bachelor of Pharmacy and a number of Masters Degree programmes, including M. Pharmacy in Medicinal Chemistry, Pharmacology, and PhD research degrees. The department is known for its multidisciplinary graduate research program.
Bachelor of Pharmacy
The four year curriculum of B. Pharmacy begins with a foundation coursework in mathematics, biology, chemistry, biochemistry, microbiology and computers. This inter-disciplinary program includes advanced coursework in the pharmaceutical sciences, including drug design and synthesis, natural products chemistry, mechanisms of drug action, pharmacology and toxicology, formulation of dosage form, industrial pharmacy, pharmaceutical engineering, pharmaceutical analysis, pharmacokinetics, biopharmaceutics, biotechnology, regulatory affairs, intellectual property and pharmacy practice. The curriculum also includes elective credits for individual preparation and educational focus in the final year of the course .
Master of Pharmacy in Medicinal Chemistry
The students are being trained to the interface of organic chemistry and biology including drug design and discovery, chemical synthesis, natural products chemistry, pharmaceutical chemistry, computer aided drug design, advanced analytical and spectroscopic techniques. The biological interface would give students insight into chemical biology, biochemistry, molecular biology, pharmacology, toxicology etc. to prepare them for this multidisciplinary science keeping in view the requirements of industry and academia.
Master of Pharmacy in Pharmacology
The program would expose students to modern techniques in drug discovery and development, advanced instrumentation methods, advanced pharmacology & toxicology, pharmacometrics (screening methods in pharmacology), cellular and molecular biology, preclinical pharmacology, in-vitro drug screening, pharmacogenomics, pharmacotherapeutics. The students would also be exposed to multidisciplinary environment to prepare them for careers in industry and academia.
Ph.D. Program
The Department is actively involved in research by having the distinction of running externally funded R & D projects from various Govt. of India agencies. The department has a strong doctoral research program in Medicinal chemistry, Pharmaceutical biotechnology and pharmacology. Alcohol withdrawal, Neurodegenerative diseases, Natural products, Cancer, Malaria, and Infectious diseases are some of the main target of current research.
Research facilities
The Department has well equipped labs providing hands on training in various areas of pharmacy such as medicinal chemistry, pharmacology, pharmaceutics, pharmacognosy, pharmaceutical biotechnology, animal & plant cell culture technologies, high throughput biology, and computer aided drug design.
