History
Jōko Station opened on March 10, 1899 as Yamagata Station (山潟駅 Yamagata-eki). The station name was changed to its present name on June 1, 1915. The station was absorbed into the JR East network upon the privatization of the Japanese National Railways (JNR) on April 1, 1987.
