IUE places great emphasis on internationalization, also mentioned in the Corporate Strategic Plan 2013-2023, and with this goal in mind strong relations have been formed with distinctive universities around the world for student and faculty exchange, joint research and scientific studies. 156 Erasmus agreements with universities in 28 EU countries and 30 cooperation protocols with universities in 12 countries help IUE establishing inter-university exchange of cultures and educational approaches with many distinctive universities. Annually, IUE has international students from 60 different countries either as exchange or full time students and international academic staff. Final aim is welcoming students from all world countries to the IUE.

The medium of instruction at IUE is completely English for all programs (except Faculty of Law) and it is compulsory during the entire study period for all undergraduate students to choose and keep learning a second foreign language out of 9 language alternatives. (German, French, Chinese, Japanese, Russian, Italian, Spanish, Greek, Portuguese).

In 2009, IUE underwent a European University Association (EUA) Institutional Evaluation Program (IEP) process that aims to contribute to the development of quality in universities and spread examples of effective strategic management. In 2012, IUE had a positive Follow-up Evaluation by EUA in order to increase the quality and scope of the higher education offered at our university.
