Iwate At-large district (House of Councillors)

Iwate At-large district (岩手県選挙区, Iwate-ken senkyo-ku) is a constituency of the House of Councillors in the Diet of Japan. It consists of Iwate Prefecture and elects two Councillors, one every three years, making it one of the decisive single-member districts. In the initial election of 1947 it used – like all districts – single non-transferable vote to select both its Councillors in one election.

The Councillors currently representing Iwate are (as of July 2013):

Predominantly rural Iwate is home and stronghold of reformist-conservative former Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) secretary-general Ichirō Ozawa, i.e. the LDP, the Renewal Party, the New Frontier Party, the Liberal Party and the Democratic Party. In 2012, one Councillor followed Ozawa into his new party People's Life First (LF), the other remained with the Democrats.
