Since then, Van der Veen has been living in Bad Bentheim, Germany,[3] where she is a singer, songwriter, dancer, and a YouTube video maker.[1][2]

Van der Veen enrolled in classical and jazz ballet classes, and she also took ballroom and Latin dancing lessons.[2] She made her first music video when she was 14 years old.[4] On March 22, 2011, van der Veen gave her first notable live music performance, at the Gouden Kabouter Awards, an event that took place at the Paradiso rock music venue in Amsterdam.[5][6][7] In October 2011 she released "You’re the One", which was her debut single.[2][8]

Van der Veen was featured on Channel 98, an Israeli TV channel, in 2011; the show was entitled Tribute Program: Ivana van der Veen, 19-year-old singer from the Netherlands.[1][9][10] In December 2012 she performed for the first time abroad at the London Gala Concert, at The Rock Tower in Tufnell Park, which featured artists from around the world.[1][11]

In 2013, van der Veen won the weekly BEAT100 World Music Chart competition four times, with videos of both original and cover songs.[5] In August of the same year she was hired to sing "Little Miss Understood" for the soundtrack of the sci-fi/horror movie Plan 9.[12][13]

Van der Veen released her first album, entitled Dreams, in February 2014. In August that year, she won the ArtistSignal monthly competition,[14] receiving a $10,000 award.[15] In December 2014 she received her first review in an American newspaper, the Washington City Paper, for her video "Happy White Christmas".[16]

As of May 2015, van der Veen's YouTube channel had more than five million total video views and over 45,000 subscribers.[17] Several of her songs have been broadcast by various radio stations in different countries, such as the Netherlands, Belgium,[18] England, the United States,[19] Brazil, and South Africa.[20]
